“The long narrow Edwardian garage had unused York stone steps, a large pit (used for cold storage) and limited natural daylight. The brief was to create a multi-purpose space for overnight guests, social space to entertain & a library/archive storage. Nicky’s design broke the space up into separate areas through clever dividers, new windows enhanced the daylight, the conversion of the steps to a fern garden visible from the shower is brilliant. The innovative use of micro cement for toilet & shower maximized the space & created a modern aesthetic. The design of what started off as a coffee counter developed into a feature bar which combined with the pit conversion into an illuminated wine cellar visible through the floor glazing has transformed the space. The wood effect porcelain flooring with repurposed lighting gives a sense of history combined with sympathetic sofas & soft furnishings really created a wow factor. Not only has the design exceeded my expectations but had added considerably to the value of the property through an exciting new self-contained living/guest & entertaining space.”
