Seaside Art Deco design project featured on Houzz homepage

I am thrilled that a project very closeto my heart has been hand-picked by the editors to be featured in an editorial ideabook on the homepage of Houzz. Houzz is the largest online community of homeowners and home renovation professionals in the world

The interior design project they selected is the significant remodelling of an apartment in a 1930s art-deco-style property in Saltdean, Sussex.

The clients were a couple moving from London to the coast, to an apartment that was in need of updating. They had clearly defined tastes and an interest in art, textures and style.

The age of the building provided some architectural challenges for us to overcome, for instance, the flat’s plumbing was connected to the building’s communal heating system, which meant that we had to work around the pipework. But we had some fabulous original design features which we embraced, including a 1930’s fireplace and a porthole from the sitting room into the hallway.

The couple’s artwork inspired the colour scheme, balancing neutrals with vibrancy.

This project was an intriguing and delightful blend of mid-century modern art deco whilst also using contemporary materials such as Formica, Bamboo and Terrazzo, with lots of personal flourishes to make it the perfect contemporary space that showcases the couple’s style and personality.

I love creating homes that truly reflect the personality of those living in them. So, if you would like a hand creating your dream home or just want a second opinion, give me a call on 07773 372 158 or send me an email via nicky@nickypercival.co.uk
